The Year 2000 Problem.
(Test Page.1.)

We now want to explain how you can test your own computer yourself. Its not difficult. If you print this page it will help you to follow the instructions clearly, stage by stage. As you complete each test, write down the results of that test, so that when finished you have a complete list of your test results..... Maybe you think carrying out these tests is too much bother ? If so, then just go to one of the many sites and either download a free program, which will probably not test all that needs testing, or purchase a larger program to do it for you. For those who wish to continue, read on !

Explanation. Many of these tests will depend on what you use your PC for ? The hardware test has to be complient to a certain degree, but that degree depends on your needs and your use of your PC. Some opinions and programs available would have you believe that you need 11 or even 12 tests to prove its complience, but this is not the case. There will be many PC's in use and situations where changing the date at boot up each day will be sufficient. Boring, maybe, but as long as you dont forget to do it, it might be adequate for your needs. (Place a permanent label on your PC to remind the user every day to check the date before starting) The ideal PC will rollover the date every day automatically, will retain that date, and will recognise leap years, one of which will be the year 2000 itself ! This is the basic requirement to be year 2000 complient. Anything above this basic requirement could be misleading and confusing to most PC users. For those purists, and those wishing to criticize we should point out here, in laymans terms, the basic functions of a PC regarding its use of dates. The RTC (real time clock) embedded in your hardware, the BIOS (basic input/output system) and the DOS operating system all operate on the date and are relient on the correct date for their proper operation. They will of course operate without the correct date, but in that case all software and system operations will be totally unreliable and records would be corrupted and unuseable.

We would like to point out here that as can be seen this site was designed by an amateur web designer, and the site leaves a lot to be desired. We are in the process of trying to improve it, but in the meantime have included a test page for anyone who wants to use it, and will leave it here for others until we completely redesigned the site and make it better. However that new site, when up, will not have lots of bells and whistles or big graphics, as we do not believe in such things. We believe a site should load quickly, and be free from unecessary graphics and flashy useless objects that are only a nuisance to viewers.
